Facilities within the Property

Our hotel is famous for the cuisine, that offers the well-known Valtellina cuisine, which enables you to taste the inviting dishes, personally prepared by the proprietors, after the full winter days spent on the snow or after long summer walks through the woods and on the peaks. The famous "pizzoccheri", "sciatt", jugged deer with "polenta" and "bresaola" with ceps are never lacking in the rich menus offered.

These dishes to be accompanied by excellent Valtellina wines,
which we will be happy to recommend. Outside our hotel the greenness of nature reigns supreme, in the garden where you can relax in the sun, where children can play undisturbed in our playground.

Summer

Walks
Setting out from Santa Caterina on foot it is possible to make many excursions into the surrounding mountains, following well marked paths which lead to refuges or mountain huts, or simply to the typical local "baite". The destinations which you must not miss when staying in Santa Caterina are the following Valleys "Valle dei Forni", with its splendid glaciers, the higher you climb the nearer they seem, the "Val Zebrù" and the "Ables" which are always full of sunlight. These are very quiet areas where it is possible to relax undisturbed, enjoying direct contact with nature and the magnificent panorama.

Mountain Biking
Another summer sport which is easy to practise in Santa Caterina is mountain-biking. By following day-long itineraries it is possible to reach mountain huts and bivouacs at high altitudes, or it is possible to follow unsurfaced routes through the woods and pastures. For the more tireless bikers and for those who enjoy large differences in levels, it is possible to climb to the mythical passes of Gavia and Stelvio.

Mountaineering
Travelling by car to Forni and then continuing on foot, it is possible to walk along the paths in the valley of the same name, climbing higher and higher until you reach thepeaks of the Ortles-Cevedale mountain range, all of which are over 3,000 metres above sea level (these of course for the more expert and well equipped mountaineers). For those who are looking for more demanding climbs, it is possible to be accompanied by expert alpine guides.

Various Sports
For cross-country ski enthusiasts, for those who wish to continue training during the summer, it is possible to practise Ski roller. For those instead who prefer a run in the mountain, Santa Caterina is the ideal place, with vast tracts of plain land and ascents, along which the cross country ski tracks run in winter. For those who love free-climbing, there is an artificial wall available, at S. Nicolò Valfurva, just a short distance from Santa Caterina, in the town gymnasium, where with the assistance of expert instructors one can practise climbing.

Winter

Cross country skiing
The cross-country ski tracks are located right beside our hotel, they are suitable for beginners, who wish to learn both the classic and skating techniques, and who can rely on our hotel ski instructor for any help they may need. The same tracks, where it is possible to follow more skilled itineraries, are ideal for expert skiers, who are able to appreciate our competitive tracks, famous all over the world as they annually host national and international competitions in which the most famous cross-country ski champions take part. Cross-country ski area with: 10 kilometres of competitive tracks and 8 kilometres of tourist tracks.

Alpine Skiing
For alpine ski and snowboard enthusiasts, at just a few hundred metres distance from the hotel, with your skis already on your feet, you can reach the lift facilities which will take you to the splendid Sobretta ski slopes, which boast perfect snow covering from December to April. Here, if one trains enough...
One could perhaps become a champion like our own Deborah Compagnoni. For children, at the skilift departure point, it is possible to join the miniclub, where they can enjoy themselves on the snow and take their first steps on skis.

Ski mountaineering
Santa Caterina is also famous for its innumerable ski touring tracks on the Ortles-Cevedale peaks, all over 3,000 metres above sea level. Just to name a few among the most beautiful: the Gran Zebrù, the Cevedale, the San Matteo, the Tresero. Reaching these peaks gives enormous satisfaction, from the peak the panorama which one enjoys is stupendous and the horizon is so vast that one feels the sensation of dominating the entire alpine arch. The descent on the return journey is also magnificent, in fresh snow, above all for those who leave at dawn and do not wait until the sun is too high for the descent. Telemark can also be practised on some of these mountains.

Apres-ski
The tiring and healthy days spent on the snow, can be pleasantly ended, with a swim in the Bormio swimming-pool. Another equally pleasant alternative, could be a sauna in the "grottos", or a bath, in the thermal waters of the open-air panoramic pool of the Bagni Vecchi in Valdidentro, just a few kilometres distance from Santa Caterina.
