Bar/Tavern The palazzo's old cellars have been converted into an extremely atmospheric bar-tavern with stone walls and vaulted ceilings. Ideal for an aperitif, a light snack or perhaps a sample from the broad and carefully chosen range of fine wines and grappas. |
Lounge On the first floor, the sophisticated salon with its wonderful fireplace is ideal for reading, conversation and working or simply as a place in which to spend a relaxed and tranquil evening. In the lounge there is also an Internet Point at guests' disposal.
Breakfast The room in which our buffet breakfast is served is an eighteenth century jewel, with frescoed walls and ceilings and an original cotto floor. |

Numerous places of artistic, cultural and naturalistic interest, countless opportunities for excursions, active recreation, shopping and sport: everything you need for a truly unforgettable holiday in a stunningly beautiful area in close contact with nature. The Valle Cannobina with its countless mountain pastures and tiny hamlets scattered across its sunniest slopes rises immediately behind Cannobio. The valley has much to offer in terms of easy day trips and more demanding excursions. An interesting tour by car, with plenty of opportunities to stop and walk around unusual and evocative places, departs from Cannobio, climbs along the Valle Cannobina, enters the Valle Vigezzo and reaches Locarno in Switzerland via the Centovalli before returning to Cannobio along the lake shore road. Places of interest: Malesco, S. M. Maggiore, Re, Ponte Brolla. The Orrido di S. Anna is the natural gateway to the Valle Cannobina (and a short walk from the centre of the village): a medieval church and Romanesque bridge built at the entrance to the plunging gorge cut by the Cannobino torrent. The setting is truly breathtaking. Carmine Superiore, an ancient 10th-12th century village perched on a rocky spur overlooking much of the lake, is just a few kilometres from Cannobio and can be reached via an easy footpath. Famous for its colours and scents, Lake Maggiore offers visitors scenery of incomparable beauty starting with the islands of the Borromeo Gulf, a small archipelago in one of the most alluring parts of the lake and easily reached by boat from Cannobio or Verbania: Isola Bella, famous for its sumptuous Baroque palazzo and magnificent Italianate terraced gardens with a rich variety of rare plants. Isola Madre: the largest of the three islands features a well stocked botanical garden with rare plants and exotic flowers and inhabited by white peacocks, parrots and pheasants. Isola dei Pescatori: the picturesque old village is still inhabited. Verbania (20 km from Cannobio) boasts the renowned Villa Taranto botanical gardens, a magnificent park with thousands of plants, some of them unique in Europe, imported from throughout the world and masterfully displayed in this lake and mountain setting. Also of great interest is the Canton Ticino at the Swiss end of Lake Maggiore just a few kilometres from Cannobio. Of particular interest are: Ascona, an extremely attractive and atmospheric medieval town and an ideal destination for a day's stroll around the small shops and along the lakefront. Isole di Brissago, a renowned botanical garden set on an island of lush vegetation. Locarno, a busy commercial and cultural centre that has an extremely attractive Lido with swimming pools, bars and restaurants. Centovalli, this broad valley winds from Locarno to Domodossola, a large town of Roman origins. The beauty of this valley may be enjoyed by car or by the romantic Centovallina railway that offers a panoramic hour and a half trip along the Centovalli and the Val Vigezzo. The journey features dizzying precipices and spectacular waterfalls, multi-coloured pastures and audacious bridges set in a stunning landscape.
Sport Sport lovers will find that Cannobio offers tennis courts, a football pitch and athletics track and a cycle path. The Lido offers a broad public beach, sailing, windsurf, water skiing, an equipment hire service and lessons. Diving - The most experienced divers visiting Cannobio will want to experience the famous Orrido di S. Anna which attracts dive clubs from throughout Europe, while the Canton Ticino offers the Valle Verzasca and Valle Maggia torrents. Mountain biking - The area around Cannobio offers numerous trails and itineraries for mountain bikers. Information and route maps can be obtained from the Cannobio tourist office.
Shopping Apart from the Sunday market (290 stalls of all kinds), Cannobio offers numerous interesting clothes shops, delicatessens and renowned wine cellars. A wider range of shops can be found at Verbania (20 km) and Locarno (15 km). Also of note are: Alessi: the famous household goods company producing stylish kitchen and tableware by international designers is located at Crusinallo (Omegna) and has a factory shop with discounted goods. Fox Town: A shopping centre with over 80 shops featuring the most prestigious fashion labels (Armani, Versace, Valentino, D&G etc.) at very attractive prices. Autostrada Bellinzona-Lugano, exit for Mendrisio. Milano, 120 km from Cannobio, Milan is not to be missed by dedicated followers of fashion. Throw yourself into the pleasure of shopping for Italian style beginning with the famous Corso Vittorio Emanuele (Duomo) and continuing along the elegant and sophisticated fashion quarter comprising Via Montenapoleone, Via della Spiga, Via Sant'Andrea and Via Manzoni. Enticing window displays by the most famous stylists, jewellers and interior designers. Milan is easily reached by car or by train from Verbania; alternatively a weekly coach trip with a guide departs every Thursday from Cannobio. |
