Two of the most popular ski resorts in Innsbruck are Seegrube/Hafelekar, with spectacular views of the Inn, Stubai and Wipp valleys; and Bergisel, to the south of the city. The latter became really famous after the Olympic Games held there in 1964 and 1976, but it was also part of the history of the region, as many battles from the Tyrol Independence War in 1809 took place here.

As much as skiing may be the main purpose of your visit to Innsbruck, the capital of Tyrol has all sort of sightseeing musts you cannot miss during your stay.
The Golden Roof is without any doubt the landmark of the city: it was built in 1494 to honour Emperor Maximilian I`s second marriage to Bianca Maria Sforza of Milan, and became a must-see attraction on the façade of the royal residence. Right besides the Golden Roof, on this square in central Innsbruck, you should also check the Altes Rathaus and the Stadtturm tower, on Herzog-Friedrich-Strasse.
